3.1 METANOL COMO CONTAMINANTE EN BEBIDAS ALCOHÓLICAS
El contenido de alcohol etílico en una bebida que no se haya sometido a
controles de calidad y sanidad, puede estar diluido o rebajado con metanol, un alcohol
derivado de la madera que al metabolizarse ocasiona ceguera permanente. Su ingestión
causa ceguera porque destruye irreversiblemente el nervio óptico y una dosis mayor a 30
ml puede causar la muerte.
